Asbestos Removal in Chelmsford

Many people are under the impression that the ban on asbestos instituted in 1999 solved the asbestos problem in the UK. Sadly, this is not the case. During the 20th century asbestos was used to create all kinds of building materials and those materials were installed in literally millions of homes and businesses throughout the UK. The ban that went into effect merely stopped any more asbestos from being installed, but it did nothing to remove all the asbestos-containing products already in place.

In order to provide a mechanism for solving the problem of legacy asbestos the government created a training and certification scheme and passed a law stating that only those who underwent the training and obtained certification could handle or remove asbestos going forward. That's where we come in. Every member of the Asbestos Gone team is fully certified in asbestos removal best practices as established by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS).

We get asked all the time whether asbestos removal is something that can be handled by the homeowner, and the answer is "No". While we understand the impulse to take matters into one's own hands, the do-it-yourself urge needs to be reined in when it comes to asbestos removal.

First, because one seemingly small mistake could result in billions of dangerous and nearly invisible asbestos fibres being released into the air (an asbestos fibre is typically about 0.2 microns in diameter, while a human hair is typically 50-70 microns in diameter). And second because, as we mentioned above, the law is clear that only properly trained and certified experts may handle or remove asbestos.
