Asbestos Removal in Lewisham

Asbestos use was outlawed in the UK in 1999, so why is it that we are still talking about the threat of asbestos more than 25 years later? The answer is that in the 100+ years leading up to the 1999 ban asbestos containing products were installed in literally millions of UK homes in the form of insulation, tiles, countertops, external coatings and more. While the 1999 ban prevented further use of this dangerous material it did nothing to remove the legacy asbestos products already in place nationwide.

That task has been left to companies like Asbestos Gone. In accordance with government requirements, every member of the Asbestos Gone crew has undergone rigorous training in asbestos removal and received certification. All of our work is performed to CITB and BOHS standards so you can rest easy knowing that when we finish your home will be asbestos-free.

There are some homeowners who are quite adept at performing a variety of tasks around the house. As a result, they also believe they are perfectly capable of handling asbestos removal themselves. Asbestos removal, however, is not like hanging a light fixture or installing bathroom tiles. One mistake during the removal process can result in a huge release of asbestos fibres, making a bad situation many times worse.

But beyond the fact that trying to remove asbestos safely without proper training is a disaster waiting to happen, the law also forbids it. UK law is clear in stating that only those who have been properly trained and certified are allowed to handle or remove asbestos. No exceptions.
